For decades, we'd thought of aging as a slow, steady process that happens year after year, but recent research reveals biological aging accelerates in two major bursts: around age 44 and again around age 60. During these periods, multiple systems throughout the body undergo significant changes.
This doesn’t mean aging suddenly begins at 44, but rather that 44 and 60 are milestones when many of us notice more dramatic changes in our appearance, energy levels, and overall resilience.
Bone health also begins to shift around age 35, as the balance between replacing older bone with new bone (bone remodeling) gradually slows.
With these forces at play, the choices we make in early adulthood can profoundly affect how we look, feel, and move decades later.
At What Age Do You Age Most Rapidly?
The research suggesting our biology doesn't follow a straight line naturally begs the question: What’s happening to our bodies at 44 and 60?
These periods bring changes in everything from metabolism and immune function to cardiovascular health and muscle biology. Researchers are still working to understand exactly why these transitions occur, but what’s become clear is that healthy aging isn't something we should wait to pursue until we notice signs that we’re getting older. Healthy aging starts much earlier.
While it's impossible to bend back the arrow of time, anti-aging (or how to age well) has less to do with looking younger and more to do with supporting the biological systems that help us stay strong, active, and resilient. The World Health Organization defines healthy aging as maintaining the functional ability that supports wellbeing in older age, including the physical and mental capacities people draw on to remain mobile, think, and function in everyday life.
One of those systems is the musculoskeletal system. Bones, muscles, joints, and connective tissues don't function in isolation. They work together so we can move, balance, and continue doing the things we love. The healthier these systems remain, the better positioned we are to age gracefully and maintain the strength, mobility, and independence we currently enjoy.
The Connection Between Movement and Healthy Aging
In addition to the discovery that aging is not biologically linear, researchers now understand that our cells respond to more than hormones, nutrients, and other biochemical signals. They also respond to physical forces. Activities such as walking, climbing stairs, resistance training, dancing, and yoga create gentle mechanical signals that encourage the body to adapt. In bone tissue, those signals help stimulate the natural remodeling process that supports skeletal strength and resilience throughout life.
The challenge is that opportunities to generate those signals can become less frequent as we age. Working at a desk all day replaces the running around and the extra exercise we experienced in our youth. Old injuries can gradually make high-impact exercise painful. Daily responsibilities can eat into the time we need to go for a walk or attend a yoga session. Before long, we may be asking how to slow aging when what our bodies really need is more movement.
Juvent’s Micro-Impact Platform® was developed on the understanding that the body recognizes movement signals and adapts. Using patented, low-magnitude mechanical stimulation (LMMS), the platform sends gentle vibrations calibrated to individual resonant frequencies through the body, mimicking the movement our bodies respond to.
This helps improve balance, bone health and density, and increases circulation and lymphatic drainage. The platform can also contribute to faster post-workout muscle recovery.
Aging Powerfully Begins by Laying a Strong Foundation
Regular movement remains one of the most powerful things we can do for our long-term health. Strength training helps maintain muscle mass, which naturally declines with age, and weight-bearing exercise provides the mechanical loading that encourages healthy bone remodeling.
Juvent’s Micro-Impact Platform® complements regular movement by delivering mechanical stimulation that provides the body with gentle physical signals similar to those generated during everyday weight-bearing activities.
Aging powerfully isn't about trying to stop the aging process. It's about giving your body what it needs to continue doing what it was designed to do. When healthy lifestyle habits are combined with innovative technologies like the Juvent Micro-Impact Platform®, it's possible to take a more proactive approach to lifelong resilience and well-being.
