Discover the many benefits of Our Unique Ingredients

Olive fruits provide essential components of the Mediterranean diet known for being associated with improved cardiovascular and overall health.[1,2] Historically, olive leaves have been used in folk remedies to improve digestive, cardiovascular, and skin conditions. One of the key components in BONOLIVE is oleuropein, a powerful phytonutrient unique to the olive tree. At a cellular level oleuropein promotes bone formation by inhibiting adipocyte differentiation, and enhancing differentiation into osteoblasts.[3,4,5,6]

The Benefits of Bonolive

  • BonOlive provides powerful antioxidant support at the cellular level*
  • BonOlive helps support cardiovascular health*
  • BonOlive may improve bone health*
  • Now has also been shown to reduce joint pain.

Bonolive provides powerful antioxidant support at cellular level

In the past years, interest in natural antioxidants as bioactive components of food has been rising. The positive effects of diets rich in fruits, vegetables and olive oil on overall health have been attributed partly to certain compound as phenolic compounds.[*3] Oleuropein gives the bitterness taste of olive oil but is also the major phenolic compound in olive leaves that has been studied for its antioxidant activity involving in promising results with respect to its effect on human health.[*3,5,7] The daily consumption of olive oil in population that follow the Mediterranean diet, provides enough oleuropein in the body to supply protection against free radicals and lipid peroxidation in humans.[*8] The antioxidant abilities, the scavenging abilities, the chemistry and pharmacological aspects of oleuropein have been widely studied and are well known.[7,9,10]

Bonolive helps support cardiovascular health*

For decades, the Mediterranean diet has been considered to be one of the most healthy. In the 1960's, scientific works started to observe the positive effect of overall cardiovascular health in population that followed the Mediterranean diet.[*11] Olive oil is the most popular dietary liquid from the Mediterranean diet and much of the evidence of its beneficial health is attributed to oleuropein, the major phenolic in olive leaves.[12,13,14,15,16]

Bonolive may improve bone health*

Epidemiological studies have shown that the incidence of bone loss was lower in the Mediterranean basin where traditional Mediterranean diet that include consumption of olive oil is widely consumed by the population.[17] Moreover, experimental models have been able to show that oleuropein is the phenolic compound from olive leaves involved in hindering, the loss of bone mass suggesting its possible key role in improving bone health.[*18,19]

Clinically Proven

BonOlive is a clinically proven bone health supplement. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study proved that BonOlive has significant effects on stimulation of bone building cells (osteoblasts) and blood liquid profiles.

The figure illustrates the 32% increase in osteocalcin levels over 12 months, which was statistically significant and indicates an increase in osteoblast activity (bone formation). Also blood liquid markers improved. A significant treatment effect was observed for total cholesterol LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Finally, DEXA scans showed subjects taking BonOlive displayed a protection of bone mineral density at the femur neck compared to those taking placebo.

Superior Bioavailability

Furthermore, results of a pharmacokinetic study shown the intake of BonOlive leads to an excellent bioavailability of bioactive metabolites in the target population for use of BonOlive.

Dr. M.Taher Fouad founded Biotron Laboratories in 1979. His passion for health and science converged in his commitment to discovering the role of minerals and trace elements in the human body. Biotron's history is inextricably linked to Mineral Amino Acid Chelates and their role in human nutrition, and Dr. Fouad's pioneering of these efforts. Today Biotron carries forward Dr. Fouads's lifework with a primary focus on scientifically validated mineral chelates and complexes.

Following in his father's footsteps, Dr. Gameil T. Fouad now presides over daily operations at Biotron. Gameil earned his B.S. in Human Biology at the University of Utah and went on to earn his Ph.D. at the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics at the Oregon Health & Science University.

In his role as President, Gameil approaches mineral nutrition from a unique industry perspective, bringing new ideas to bear on minerals. Along with his expert team, Gameil actively applies these tools to the health and nutrition field with the aim of developing mineral products that are highly compatible with human physiology on a molecular level.

To date, the Biotron Process has achieved widespread recognition as a unique and scientifically valid technique, which utilizes the complete amino acid profile derived from enzymatic treatment of isolated vegetable proteins–a process resulting in authentic Mineral Amino Acid Chelates and Complexes.

Chelated Minerals for Human Nutrition - Calcium is essential

Where nutritionally essential minerals are concerned, calcium is truly in a class by itself. The daily requirements for calcium are over 1,000 milligrams per day for most adults. It is hard to overemphasize the roles calcium plays in the body. Calcium is involved in a wide array of biological processes - from intracellular signaling to neurotransmission and muscle contraction. Despite these various functions, it is calcium's definitive role in supporting bone health that makes this nutrient so vital. It's one of the few essential nutrients for which an FDA-approved claim can be made. It is difficult to overemphasize the importance of achieving peak bone mass in adolescence and early adulthood to minimize the risks of osteoporosis later in life.

Unfortunately, most women fail to get enough calcium from diet alone. For many, supplementation is indispensable to achieving adequate daily intake. Not all forms of calcium are created equally and controversy over which type is best continues to be a matter of debate. Its thought that organically-bound calcium is preferentially absorbed when compared to widely used inorganic forms such as calcium carbonate. Demonstrating this experimentally is challenging. Because if its importance, calcium levels in the blood are very tightly regulated by the body. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) - among other hormonal control systems - function to maintain this delicate balance.

Bonolive Olive Leaf Extract
Bonolive is a pharmaceutical-grade olive leaf extract that features a unique polyphenol complex (40% polyphenols), including oleuropein. This proprietary olive extract preparation is fully water-soluble, which makes its oral bioavailability superior. Historical and traditional use, as well as clinical testing and toxicological assessment, confirm the safety of its oral consumption.[1,2]

Research has shown that olive polyphenol bioactivity is associated with increased osteoblast formation, increased extracellular matrix mineralization, and overall bone maintenance.[3] Five preclinical studies in a well-established rat model for bone health demonstrated that olive polyphenols exert protective effects on the formation and maintenance of bone.[4,5] In addition, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study provided strong support for Boneolive promoted a statistically significant improvement (32% increase) in levels of the bone formation marker osteocalcin over a 12-month period. Furthermore, DEXA scan results suggested that Bonolive supplementation positively supported BMD at the lumbar spine and the femur neck compared to a placebo.[6] The treatment group also experienced reduced adipocyte formation and a positive effect on lipid metabolism (i.e., cholesterol and triglycerides), confirming Boneolive’s double mode of action. To positively influence bone health and cardiovascular health.
